Hand in Hand

Our community is suffering in silence. Hundreds of families who appear to be functioning perfectly on the outside are struggling on a daily basis behind closed doors.

Hand in Hand’s vision for the future is of a community in which every member feels a responsibility to take care of those around them. We believe that this can only be achieved by inspiring our youth to share this outlook, by offering them a way to become real givers today.

When we were called ‘Shabbat Walk’, we started out by sending teenagers to visit the sick and the elderly on Shabbos, but we now do so much more. We have 850 volunteers across London and Manchester who support hundreds of local families as well as those who are isolated, housebound or unwell.

Our volunteers’ hands-on help makes family life better after school and on Sundays as well as on Shabbos – whether it’s through one-to-one play, homework help, mentoring or the simple act of friendship to a lonely child. They ease the struggles of single parent families, children with additional needs, mothers with post-natal complications and many other extenuating circumstances.

Volunteering boosts young people’s skills, sense of responsibility and self-confidence, and the practical support that they offer changes the daily reality of those in need.

By supporting Hand in Hand you can give direct relief to the burdens that so many families are carrying whilst at the same time playing a crucial part in building a generation of altruistic young people – giving them the tools to change the face of the community from within.

Thank you for your help.
